A solo goal from Edgar Manaka, which came from a free-kick completely against the run of play, was enough to hand Rise and Shine to walk away with all three points courtesy of a 1-0 win in Limpopo.
United might have dominated the game for large periods but still came away from Polokwane with nothing to show.
“I think we definitely deserved the three points," coach Fadlu lamented. "We should have wrapped the game up in the first half.
"They had one opportunity, one set-piece and they scored. It’s really disappointing not to come out of the game with anything but really positive from the players, to come here and dominate the game the way we did. It’s just about finishing off the chances.
“It should have been 3-0 first half and we would have had a different story. One set-piece and we threw it away. We should have wrapped the game up and scored our chances in the first half but they didn’t have anything.”
Coach Fadlu was, however, happy with the manner in which his team took the game to City even though they failed to knock down the defensive wall that the home side so diligently put up.
“That was really positive, how we came here and dominated," he said. "They hardly threatened our goalkeeper but then to concede through a soft set-piece like that it was really disappointing but the players did well, they fought.
“They know they let themselves down. We should have got at least a point but I think we deserved all three points. Now we have to focus on the Telkom (Knockout) and that’s what we will do.”
Defeat for the boys was a first in six competitive outings and they will look to turn that around as quickly as possible.
They will have the opportunity to do so this weekend when they host the table-toppers Bidvest Wits in the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
