ERTUGRAL APPOINTED NEW MARITZBURG HEAD COACH

Vastly experienced Premier Soccer League tactician Muhsin Ertugral is the man entrusted with Maritzburg United’s fortunes after he signed a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Ertugral last worked at Ajax Cape Town, and there aren’t too many coaches who know the PSL playing field as well as he does, the 59-year-old also have previously worked at Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Golden Arrows, Kaizer Chiefs and Santos.

Ertugral actually had four spells at Ajax, and is renowned for working with and giving opportunities to players from the development ranks, which was one of the factors the Maritzburg United management looked at when making the appointment.

“He is a seasoned coach who will know exactly how to deal with the situation we are in, to get the team out of the relegation zone,” said Team of Choice Chairman Farook Kadodia.

“He is an expert in promoting youth, so beyond saving us from relegation this season, his mandate is bring through and unearth young talent, and to help the club maintain a top eight position in the future.”

An announcement will be made shortly regards the make-up of Ertugral’s technical team.

The Istanbul-born coach first arrived in South Africa in 1999, when he joined Chiefs for his first spell.

Ertugral’s first action with Maritzburg will come on January 6, when United take on Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in an Absa Premiership encounter.
