The Team of Choice held out for a 2-0 win in Limpopo and claimed three points that left them top of the log on six points, much to the delight of the team boss, who praised his team for their defensive solidity and resilience.
“Two clean sheets now and we did not have a single one in six months so to get two in a row I’m really happy with the defenders," coach Eric said.
"I think we defended superbly in both matches. Today at least we did not drop as deep as we did against Royal Eagles, we looked a lot more compact and organised. We did not really give them any chances so I’m very proud overall of the team and the effort they have put in today.”
The KwaZulu-Natal based side are now unbeaten in five games, winning four and drawing one and could cement their place in next season’s PSL with victory over Eagles in their next game and coach Eric explained just how important it is to have your fate in your own hands.
“It’s like I said to the players, we are going to treat this like a cup," he added. "First game against Eagles was the quarterfinal, this was the semi and now we got the final against Eagles next week Wednesday.
"We will be up for it, we can finish it now. I said to the boys that this is the first opportunity that we can put ourselves in the driving seat the whole season we have been sitting at the bottom of the league, chasing everybody else, having to rely on others. Now we rely on nobody. We rely upon ourselves and that’s a beautiful feeling.”
The team from Piertermaritzburg have a week to prepare for round two of the KZN derby against Royal Eagles knowing that victory over their provincial neighbours will be enough to stay in the PSL. Kick-off is at 15:00 on the 29th of May at Chatsworth Stadium.
