Maritzburg United are pleased to announce the signing of central defender Kwanda Mngonyama, who returns to the club after a two year spell with Cape Town City.
In addition, the Team of Choice are closing in on a permanent deal for striker Judas Moseamedi.
Mngonyama enjoyed three successful seasons with United before joining Cape Town City ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
He also previously played for Bidvest Wits after starting at Mamelodi Sundowns, and despite still being only 25 years old, the tough-tackling Bafana Bafana-capped defender has a wealth of top flight experience under his belt.
“Kwanda is a KZN boy who wanted to return home,” club chairman Farook Kadodia explained. “A deal has been finalised with Cape Town City and we welcome him home with open arms.
“He did very well for us in his previous spell, and being familiar with the setup in Pietermaritzburg, Kwanda will be able to hit the ground running and will provide another excellent option for coach Eric Tinkler in our defence.”
Contrary to media reports, Judas Moseamedi’s loan stay from Cape Town City has not yet been made into a permanent deal, although the club are hopeful that will happen soon.
“The deal for Judas is in the final stages of negotiations over terms and we are hoping to conclude it shortly,” Kadodia commented.
Moseamedi, 25, proved a real hit and became a fans' favourite during his short stay with United last season. The big man got some huge goals for the Team of Choice, including a late winner against AmaZulu, a brace in a 3-1 win over SuperSport United, and a goal in the play-offs against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzhivhandila as he answered the club’s call to help avoid relegation.
