The revamped 30-game season launches at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, where the Team of Choice take on SuperSport United.
Coach Siya expects many challenges due to the new age restrictions, number of games and total revamp of the teams.
"Preparation is going well and now it is a matter of telling these young boys that it is a marathon, it is no longer a sprint because last season we were playing only 15 games and now we need to prepare them to play 30 games," he said.
"It is not going to be easy, it is going to take boys with lots of character and again we need to teach them professionalism. It is going to be a challenge to gel the team together but there is a lot of talent."
United have registered no less than 20 new players for the MDC league, which will give the youngsters every opportunity to impress their new coach.
Coach Siya went on to add on the importance of harnessing local talent in the Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.
He added: "We are looking to form a team based on players from PMB. We have been playing good football but we have not managed to compete for the title yet. It’s a big opportunity for players to express themselves."
Maritzburg's game is on Saturday and kick-off is at 10h00.
