MARITZBURG SUFFER SUPERSPORT DEFEAT

Maritzburg United were on the receiving end of a 2-0 loss to SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.

A 12th minute strike from Kudakwashe Mahachi and Sipho Mbule's 72nd minute goal brought to an end an unbeaten run of eight matches by Eric Tinkler's side.

Matsatsantsa stamped their authority on the game early on when Mahachi pounced in the box to steer the ball into the bottom corner.

The Team of Choice looked to play their way back into the game, and had a chance in the 32nd minute when Daylon Claasen picked out Micah Lea'alafa, but on the turn, he dragged his shot wide.

Ten minutes later and there was another opening for the KZN side, but after Mxolosi Kunene had set up Judas Moseamedi, the latter was quickly closed down by the SuperSport defence.

Maritzburg continued to probe for a way back into the match after the interval in Pietermaritzburg, and they had a good chance when Kunene burst down the wing before pulling the ball back for Dan Morgan, but the New Zealander fired over from the edge of the box.

Midway through the stanza, Kunene popped up in the box to get on the end of a cross from Pogiso Sanoka, but there were no celebrations as his header flew just over.

Instead, the Team of Choice were to suffer a killer blow soon after when Mbule drove home SuperSport's second goal with 18 minutes to play.
