5 October 2011

The Team of Choice, Maritzburg United FC, have begun their Social Responsibility Initiatives for the 2011-2012 season.

The Club has identified a range of Charities that it will be visiting and working with together during the upcoming season and the first such charity that the Club visited recently was the “Siyabonga-Helping Hands for Africa”

The Siyabonga Helping hands for Africa Charity make a difference by providing adequate nutrition, medical care, a good education and thus better prospects for the future and supports children in the so-called townships around Pietermaritzburg. Their focus is on the districts of Imbali, Copesville and Esigodini. The long-term goal is to develop life skills that will help the children to help themselves.

The community centre that was built caters for the children by supplying meals, assisting with homework and gives them the opportunity to participate in educational activities.

Besides the educational activities different workshops are offered such as Guitar lessons, Discussion Rounds, Dancing and Soccer Training. These educational and social activities go far beyond the school curriculum and it helps the children to develop in a full range of life skills.

“When the kids were told that Maritzburg United F.C. would come and conduct a training session with them, a lifelong dream was going to be fulfilled. Bright-Eyed and full of excitement they were waiting for the day to come.

" It is important for the children to realize the opportunity to success when they train hard. It is important to see that nothing is impossible and that if they have the ambition and the endurance they are going to reach their aims. In addition to that the children really enjoyed playing soccer with their stars and it definitely was a day to remember for all of them” said Siyabhonga director, Ute Bunge.

“We have a responsibility to ensure that football activities are provided for all sectors in the community and it was great to see the excitement of these youngsters when the 1st Team Squad visited them and conducted a coaching clinic” said Commercial Manager Younus Kadodia.

“The Players are a source of inspiration to these kids and we will continue to look to assist in terms of not just offering football knowledge, but also equipment, clothing and plenty of smiles and laughter to organizations such as these” concluded Kadodia.
