Reserve Team talent excites Ncikazi
26 March 2015 catches up with assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi, the man who has taken the Reserve team under his wing. Can you give us an update please as to where things stand with the Reserve League team at the moment?

Mandla Ncikazi: With the PSL Reserve League finished for this season, the team is competing in the regional Castle League, where we are second on the table.

At a team like Maritzburg United Football Club, with limited resources, I believe the work we are doing with the Reserve side is invaluable.

We are continually looking at players – we have a core squad, and then we usually have two or three additional players we invite down to train with the team – at the moment we have some very exciting prospects including a right-sided player and a centre-back.

I can’t wait to see these young players getting an opportunity – there is so much potential. Deolin Mekoa was recently invited to train with the Bafana Bafana squad. A great honour for the player, and the club…

Mandla Ncikazi: Its very impressive and great for Deolin that he got this opportunity. And I can guarantee there are more players who are also ready to follow in his footsteps – players that are ready to step up and play in the first team if the coach calls upon them.

These are young players, who play without fear, who have a lot of talent. Another player who has done well since getting his chance in the first team lately is Philani Zulu…

Mandla Ncikazi: Yes, credit to the head coach for switching him to left-back. He has been performing extremely well, and I don’t doubt that the way he is playing right now, he is one of the best left-backs in the PSL. catches up with assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi, the man who has taken the Reserve team under his wing.
