Match Preview: Ajax CT v Maritzburg United
18 August 2015
With two wins and a draw from their last three matches against Ajax Cape Town, Maritzburg United will be hoping for another positive result when they clash with the Urban Warriors on Saturday night.
The match takes place at the Cape Town Stadium with kick off scheduled for 20H15, the game to be televised live on SABC1.
The Team of Choice were able to take four points from Ajax last season, via a 0-0 away draw and a 1-0 win in Pietermaritzburg, where Mohau Mokate netted in the 90 th minute.
The 2013/ 2014 campaign was evenly balanced between the two sides, with Maritzburg winning at home after Ajax had beaten them down in Cape Town.
Historically the sides are very evenly matched; there have been five wins apiece and six draws. In those 16 matches, Ajax have scored 18 goals, Maritzburg 17.
Early season form has seen the Team of Choice losing in an eight goal thriller to Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 before drawing 0-0 with Jomo Comos in the Absa Premiership.
Ajax have beaten Pirates 1-0 in the MTN8, while losing 2-1 to Bidvest Wits in the Absa Premiership before drawing 1-1 with the same team in a MTN8 semi-final first leg.
Neither team has any players on suspension although Ajax assistant coach Ian Taylor is banned after his red card last weekend. Ajax defender Aidan Jenniker is on three yellow cards, while Maritzburg have four players on a single yellow.
The Team of Choice are expected to have both Kurt Lentjies and Thami Mkhize available again after the pair both went off injured in the 0-0 draw with Cosmos at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
