Ajax CT 3-1 Maritzburg United
22 August 2015

Missed chances proved costly for Maritzburg United as a promising start against Ajax Cape Town ended up in a 3-1 defeat.

Ajax enjoyed the early ball possession, but failed to trouble the Maritzburg defence. Instead it was United who took the lead after 20 minutes when Tamsanqa Teyise headed in from Thamsanqa Mkhize's corner kick - his second goal for the club.

Mohammed Anas looked set to make it 2-0 a few minutes before the break when he went past Ajax keeper Anssi Jaakkola, only to see his shot cleared off the line by Abbubaker Mobara.

The hosts drew level on 69 minutes when Prince Nxumalo netted after a goalmough scramble.

Ajax went in front in the 82nd minute when Nxumalo poked the ball home after the Team of Chloice had failed to clear a corner kick.

Anas had the chance to get United back in the game when he went clean in on goal, but his parting shot was blocked by Jaakolla.

Nathan Paulse beat Virgil Vries with a looping header in the final minute of regulation time to add the Urban Warriors' third.

Ajax Cape Town: Jaakkola, Lolo, Mobara, Coetzee, Ncube, Mdabuka (Cale 55'), Mzwakali (Paulse 79'), Graham, Losper, Norodien (Gamildien 70'), Nxumalo

Maritzburg United:
Vries, Teyise, De Jongh, Booysen, Cele (D.Mekoa 62'), Zulu, Mkhize, Rusike (Banda 79'), Hartog, Makaringe, Anas (Mokate 60')

With two wins and a draw from their last three matches against Ajax Cape Town, Maritzburg United will be hoping for another positive result when they clash with the Urban Warriors on Saturday night.
