Middendorp set for 250th PSL match
03 February 2016
Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp will be hoping to celebrate his 250th match in charge in the PSL with a win as his side takes on Polokwane City in the Limpopo province.
The match takes place tonight at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19H30 kick off, after which the Team of Choice meet Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening.
Middendorp is in his third stint with Maritzburg, and has also coached Kaizer Chiefs, Free State Stars, Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
His overall record is 82 wins, 82 draws and 85 losses in his 249 league and cup matches in the PSL. The goal tally for Middendorp’s teams are 277 for and 283 against.
The German-born coach will however certainly not be sidetracked by his personal midlestone, the priority at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium being the three points, following United’s 3-2 loss to Sundowns at home last weekend:
"We had it in the first 30 minutes, there were one or two moments where we were probably lucky not to concede but when conceded 0-1, you have to win these one-on-ones, even if you have to make the tactical foul, make it," Middendorp said after the game.
"After they scored the second and the third, with a little small changes on our side, I think 10 or 15 minutes more, I think we would have comeback.
"I'm totally unhappy, I know we haven't performed on each and every possession to 100%, but some changes and new players today. We have to continue and this journey will be decided by the end of May, not now."
