Disappointment as United denied victory late on
8 February 2017

Polokwane City grabbed an 82nd minute equaliser to deny Maritzburg maximum points after a 1-1 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

After Thobani Mncwango missed with a 15th minute chance for the hosts, it was Maritzburg who had the better of the first half chances.

But Mohau Mokate sent a 20th minute over the bar while Deolin Mekoa’s 45th minute shot was saved by City goalkeeper George Chigova.

Mokate put the Team of Choice ahead in the 52nd minute when he turned in Bandile Shandu’s cross.

More chances followed for both sides, but Thabang Klaas shot wide for Rise and Shine while Mekoa missed a couple of chances for the visitors.

The Team of Choice seemed headed for a first win under Roger De Sa, but it was not to be as Jabulani Maluleke slotted in an 82nd minute penalty to secure the home side a share of the spoils.

Maritzburg are next in action when they host Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday night.

Polokwane City: Chigova, Semenya, Klaas, Tema, Seabi, Mbonani, Manaka (Kanyenda 77’), Maluleke, Segolela (Jembula 70’), Ramagalela, Mncwango (Vilakazi 90+5’)

Maritzburg United: Mpandle, Ndlovu, Maboe, Fransman, Onyango, Shandu, Mokate (Moon 75’), Wiedliech, Mngonyama, Mekoa, Rusike (Saal 67’ [Shabalala 89’])
