Celtic draw secures best ever finish!
27 May 2017

Maritzburg United ended seventh on the Absa Premiership table after a 1-1 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Fadlu Davids’ side had to come from a goal down after Celtic had led at half time.

Phunya Sele Sele had the first chance - in the opening minute, but Dumisani Zuma's chip went just over the bar.

The Team of Choice hit back with a succession of corner kicks while Fortune Makaringe shot wide, before Tshegofatso Mabaso almost header Kurt Lentjies' corner in for an own goal.

After Evans Rusike squandered another good chance Celtic drew first blood in the 36th minute when Zuma's shot deflected kindly for Musa Nyatama to fire in.

Lentjies almost made it 1-1 level just before half time but his free kick was brilliantly kept out by Patrick Tignyemb.

The Team of Choice restored parity four minutes after half time when Mohau Mokate's low shot from the right went in off the upright.

United missed a couple of half chances to grab the winner, but they had managed to do enough through the campaign to secure the club’s second top eight finish in three seasons.
