Along with Kaizer Chiefs, the Team of Choice have the best defensive record in the Absa Premiership, having conceded only 11 in 19 matches. Chippa United have conceded 12, with Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates next best with 17 goals conceded.
It's certainly an achievement to be proud of although Maritzburg will have to be at their best to keep what will be a fired-up Bucs side off the score-sheet when they clash with the Soweto giants in Orlando on Saturday night.
Coach Fadlu paid tribute to the impact that Ghana international keeper Richard Ofori has made, although he also points out that it’s been a team effort.
"When Virgil Vries left we needed a profile goalkeeper who is good in the air. We looked at our youth and at the Diski team, a lot of short players. We knew last season that crosses into the box were our weak point, and Richard gives us that dimension," he explained.
"It's a team effort, its starts from upfront where we press the opposition, so it's not only about our defence and our goalkeeper, it's a team effort. Like I said when we went through nine games without scoring, we have to score as a team, and it's the same at the back.
"So even our strikers take pride in the defensive record, because their work up front to press, to close angles, is what protects the team."
United go into Saturday's showdown with Pirates just two points and two places behind the Buccaneers, who are in fourth spot and have played a game more.
"Pirates are a fantastic side playing fantastic football, but we definitely want to get something out of it,” added coach Fadlu.
