NDLOVU REWARDED WITH BAFANA CALL-UP!

Exciting young Maritzburg United development product Siphesihle Ndlovu has had his outstanding form over the last year recognised with a call-up to the senior national team.

The 21-year-old from Ashdown just outside of Pietermaritzburg is one of the 25 players named for the Four Nations tournament later this month involving hosts Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa.

He’s the only Maritzburg player in Stuart Baxter’s squad, although he will be in the company of his former team-mate, Ryan Moon, now at Kaizer Chiefs.

Energetic and tenacious, Ndlovu has been a driving force of inspiration for the Team of Choice and has certainly played his part in what has been a successful season for United, having collected a succession of Man-of-the-Match awards over the course of the campaign.

The midfielder, nicknamed ‘Mbesuma’ after the former Kaizer Chiefs striker, has scored three goals in 21 league games for Maritzburg this season and won the January Absa Premiership Player of the Month award after some scintillating performances and a string of assists.

Just on Sunday he scooped another Man-of-the-Match prize, in the 2-1 Nedbank Cup win over Royal Eagles.

“I don’t see anyone really challenging Ndlovu for the [Young Player of the Season] award,” Maritzburg head coach Fadlu Davids said after the match. “It’s unbelievable what he has achieved so far, talking of men against boys, with him it shows, with his understanding of the game, when to slow it down, when to pick up the pace.

“That’s what he did, with 10 men (after Bevan Fransman’s sending off), sometimes you don’t have to play fast, sometimes you do. His understanding of the game, his reading of the game, tactically you give him any instruction and he takes it to a tee. We should be thinking about him moving all the way to Europe.”

Ndlovu also recently received praise from another PSL coach, who compared him to a Chelsea midfielder.

“I like to look around the world when I compare our local players to be the best, and Ndlovu reminds me of N’Golo Kante of Chelsea.
His work-rate, his tackles and everything about him is the same. He is a young player that is improving, and I have always been watching him play since I came back into the country.”
