The league match kicks off at 3pm.
At the end of a tough campaign, victory over Matsatsantsa should give the Team of Choice a good chance of avoiding automatic relegation when they head into their final Absa Premiership match of the season - away to Baroka FC on Saturday May 11.
It's certainly been a rollercoaster of a ride for Maritzburg in recent years; after escaping relegation by the finest of margins three years ago, thanks to a sensational 3-1 win over Jomo Cosmos in the final match of the season, Maritzburg subsequently secured two consecutive top eight placings, and also made the Nedbank Cup final last season.
There is certainly never a dull moment being a Team of Choice supporter, and it seems that it's in the club's DNA to battle against the odds and show character when it's most needed.
The unbelievable support the team receives from the people of Pietermaritzburg and the surrounding region has of course been a major factor. This will again be crucial on Saturday, with the club expecting a full capacity turn-out at the Harry Gwala Stadium, as has been the case for recent home games and indeed most of the season.
Of course the Maritzburg players are very much aware of the responsibility they shoulder.
"Pietermaritzburg needs to have a PSL team. The supporters have always been good to us, we really appreciate them, they've been behind us since the first game of the season,” central defender Brian Onyango said.
"We can't afford to let them down so we're asking them to come in large numbers on Saturday to give us the support they always give us. We really need them at this time of the season, they are our strength and we plan to give them the three points."
The Team of Choice can take heart from their most recent outing, when they showed great courage to earn a 2-1 win away at Black Leopards in Thohoyandou.
"We knew what was at stake against Leopards and that we needed to close the gap. The win also gives us confidence going into the last two games. We need wins to survive," Onyango stated.
“Its very important now for us to beat SuperSport. We know how the table stands. We win, other teams slip up, and we're on top of them - that's how important this match is."
SuperSport come to the Harry Gwala in sixth spot on the table, nine points off league leaders Pirates and Sundowns, and with just one victory in their last five league outings.
Maritzburg will feel they have a score to settle with the men from Tshwane, having last beaten them in October of 2014. Since then, Matsatsantsa have won seven and drawn three of their 10 encounters, including a 1-0 home win in Pretoria this season, and a 1-0 win in the KZN Capital City last season.
History will however count for little and it should boil down to the levels of commitment, pride and passion which coach Eric Tinkler's men bring to the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday. The PMB side have certainly been putting in some good performances of late - not always getting the rewards they deserve - but with the Leopards win, it looks like their fortunes may just have changed...
