IN TOUCH WITH: YUSUF JAPPIE
16 April 2020

Maritzburg winger Yusuf Jappie discusses what he's watching at the moment - Money Heist, and also tells us about United's ‘best’ goal this season - scored by himself!

As we continue our lockdown interview series, it's Yusuf's turn to go into the hot seat.

The 2019/ 20 campaign was his first at Maritzburg, having arrived in the off-season. The 24-year-old initially took a bit of time to break into the starting XI, but has certainly been gaining in momentum and becoming increasingly influential.

In total, the former Milano United, Golden Arrows and Free State Stars wide-player has featured in nine league and cup matches for the Team of Choice.

With his cultured left boot, the Capetonian has added another dimension to the Maritzburg attack.

And it was his stunning free-kick back in December which earned Maritzburg a 1-0 win away at Polokwane City.

Here's what Yusuf had to say about how he's been doing during the coronavirus lockdown:

MUFC: Where are you spending the lockdown?
Yusuf Jappie (YJ): I’m with my family in Cape Town.

MUFC: How are you keeping busy?
YJ: We have a routine everyday with my family, we wake up, gym, then the rest of the day we chow Netflix and play games.

MUFC: How often do you speak to your teammates/ coach?
YJ: Every day

MUFC: Who is the person you are most in contact with during the lockdown and how do you guys chat?
YJ: Nazeer, Keagan and Rushine. I call Nazeer often, the others we communicate via Whatsapp.

MUFC: Have you ever imagined life without football? And what would you have done for a career had you not been a footballer?
YJ: That’s a tricky question but I would say I wanted to do Sports Management.

MUFC: Are there any games/ movies/ series/ books that you can recommend?
YJ: I love series on Netflix, one of them is The Money Heist.

MUFC: Looking at the season so far, which was the most impressive result/ game for the team?
YJ: For me, I think it was achieving a goal of reaching the Telkom Knockout Final - although we didn’t win, but it an achievement for us as players, individuals, the club and everybody else.

MUFC: In which match do you feel you played your best?
YJ: The home game we played against Golden Arrows at Harry Gwala Stadium (a 2-1 win in January).

MUFC: What was the best goal scored by MUFC this season?
YJ: My free kick against Polokwane City.
