MARITZBURG FACE CHILLI BOYS TEST

26 August 2014

Maritzburg United are in action at the Harry Gwala Stadium tonight, facing a tough Absa Premiership test against PSL newcomers Chippa United.

The Team of Choice have four points from their three games this season and are seventh on the standings, while Chippa are ninth, with three points from their three matches, thanks to an opening day victory over Platinum Stars.

The PE-based side come into the game on the back of two consecutive league defeats and will no doubt be determined to try and end their losing streak.

Maritzburg meanwhile lost their most recent game; 1-0 away to Bidvest Wits, but will be looking for a second consecutive home victory in KZN this season after their 2-0 win over Polokwane City.

“We are disappointed that we lost our last game against Wits and personally I think we didn’t play as well as we can that day,” Thamsanqa Mkhize told the SuperSport website.

“Now we have a chance to redeem ourselves and we really want to register another win at home, which is always special. We would’ve loved to go unbeaten for longer but that’s all in the past now..

“We’ve already shown that we are going to be tough to beat this season and we have to continue along that path,” added Mkhize.

Team news for United is that Mohau Mokate is serving a red card suspension and will miss out on the Chippa United game on Wednesday. Deolin Meloa is out injured, while Sibusiso Khumalo is to undergo late fitness test. All other players are available for selection.

Chippa United have been boosted by the availability of three additional players - Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, Nigerian midfielder Ugonna Uzochukwu and Zimbabwean defender Eric Chipeta have all received their work permits.
