11 September 2014
Hardly two months after securing sponsorship from Msunduzi Municipality, Maritzburg United have had another shot in the arm by securing a sponsorship with one of the biggest aluminium producing companies in the country, Hulamin.
The sponsorship is for the reserve team that participates in the Multichoice Diski Challenge, a new reserve league initiated by the Premier Soccer League.
The launch of this sponsorship took place at Hulamin offices on Wednesday evening the 10th of September, and among those that attended, were the CFO who is also the acting CEO of Hulamin, David Austin, the president of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, Leo Quayle, Inderjith Manilal who was representing the Mayor of Msunduzi Municipality, The Chairman Mr Farook Kadodia, and head coach Steve Komphela.
The Chairman expressed his delight with this new development and said:
“This is a groundbreaking excersize. It is the first time in the history of the club that we have a title sponsor that will ensure that our reserve team is well resourced to be able to be competitive.”
Steve Komphela emphasised the importance of “what Hulamin were getting themselves into, a massive multibillion rand industry with huge opportunities for exposure, which Hulamin will benefit from,” said the Head Coach.
Hulamin is also very excited about being involved with the club, and the opportunities that are created for the players as a result. Reginald Nyandeni, who is the Category Manager for Services, highlighted the benefits that the players will enjoy saying:
“The sponsorship will help expose our local young players to a range of development opportunities in football and in the broadcasting field, helping to produce better rounded and better equipped players on and off the field.”
He went on to say: “For deserving young boys, there are opportunities within Hulamin to apply for academic bursaries to further academic studies.”
The reserve team play their first game on Saturday the 13th of September 2014 against Kaizer Chiefs at King Zwelithini Stadium, uMlazi, Durban, at 12h30. The game will be live on Supersport 4.
