Maritzburg braced for Aces test
12 September 2014

Maritzburg United are readying themselves for what is going to be a tough challenge against MP Black Aces at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

The Team of Choice go into this game sitting in sixth position on the Absa Premiership table, while Aces are 12th, although there is only a three point gap between the two sides.

And with players such as Mabuthi Khenyeza, Tendai Ndoro, Mbulelo Mabizela and Edwin Gyimah in their side, AmaZayoni will certainly be a hard nut to crack.

Maritzburg however are determined to get back to winning ways after drawing their last game, 1-1 away to Free State Stars.

“We would’ve loved to come back with maximum points from our last games, which would have put us in an even better position, but we are satisfied with the way we’ve started the season,” Maritzburg’s attacking midfielder Thokozani Sekotlong told the SuperSport website.

“The most important thing now is not to drop our standards but to aim for a better record for the next five games going forward. The guys know how important this game is. We dropped points away from home and we have to make sure that we get all three at home.

“Aces are a good side; they play good football but Harry Gwala is our fortress and we have to make a statement,” Sekotlong added.

For Team of Choice defender Abel Mabaso, Saturday’s match will see him doing battle against the club he played on loan last season. But for Mabaso, it must be business as usual on Saturday:

“The important thing for us to keep up our good start to the season is to maintain our hunger, irrespective of whom we are playing,” the 23-year-old told Maritzburgunited.co.za.

“I had a good time at Aces and appreciate what they did for my career. But now I am at Maritzburg, and my focus is on playing well, helping the club have a good season, and making our fans happy.

“If we can continue to work hard for each other, approach each match with the right attitude, the results will come,” he added.
