MARITZBURG UNITED TO TAKE A SECOND BITE AT CHIEFS
30 September 2014

Within exactly a week since Maritzburg United fell 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in a league encounter at FNB stadium, the Team of Choice returns with the hope that they will be able to turn things around and upset Amakhosi this time.

Maritzburg played a stubborn game against in-form Kaizer Chiefs who have won seven league matches in a row and collected 21 points in the process.

United made Chiefs work very hard for their victory, needing a rather soft penalty that was converted by Mandla Masango.

Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter conceded that the Team of Choice was going to give them a run for their money.

“ It’s always difficult to play a team coached by Steve, because he knows what he is doing. He communicates well and his players respond well to him,” said the Chiefs mentor.

The two clubs lock horns again in the Telkom Knockout this Saturday at the same venue. Maritzburg United will be looking to revenge the narrow defeat in the league game.

MUFC Head Coach Steve Komphela made his intentions very clear saying, “We will be back here at the same time, same place, but wiser. It’s a grudge match, we won’t allow them to beat us again.”

He admitted that Chiefs were the team to beat at the moment, “ They are a mean machine, but I believe they are beatable,” he said.

Maritzburg United had a good run in the Nedbank Cup last season, losing to Orlando Pirates in the semi final stage. They will draw encouragement from that experience and take it into the Telkom Cup.

Communications Manager for the Team of Choice, Brian Zuma was positive about their chances.

“We had Chiefs under watch and control, until that late first half penalty. We believe in ourselves and people i have met since the league game, are full of praises with the way we played," he said.

Brian concluded by saying that they are capable of springing a surprise victory, “ Steve has a lot of depth when it comes to tactics, watch the space”
