KUTU’S FINE FORM REWARDED WITH BAFANA CALL

12 March 2020

Maritzburg United are extremely proud of the call-up Thabiso Kutumela has received to the Bafana Bafana squad which will do duty in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Bafana are set to host São Tomé e Príncipe on March 27, before facing the island nation away from home four days later.

Kutumela has been named as one of four forwards in the squad, the others being Lebogang Mothiba, Bradley Grobler and Percy Tau.

The 26-year-old Kutumela joined the Team of Choice in January 2019 and has become an increasingly influential and important member of the squad.

Kutumela has contributed five goals and four assist in 19 Absa Premiership games. Added to that are four goals in cup competition this season as well as several Man-of-the-Match awards.

To now receive a call-up to the senior national team is the icing on the cake for the stocky striker.

“The club is immensely proud of Thabiso Kutumela and his efforts this season were deserving of a call-up,” said Maritzburg United CEO Younus Kadodia.

“Kutumela’s work-rate and attitude have been exemplary and it’s been a pleasure to see him going from strength to strength in this team.

“He has been integral to the success we have enjoyed this season and his call-up will also serve a motivation to his Maritzburg United teammates.

“Credit is also due to the technical team for the manner in which they have helped Thabiso develop his game.”

South Africa are currently second in Group C, behind Ghana and ahead of Sudan and São Tomé e Príncipe.
