COACH'S COLUMN

30 March 2009

Coach Gordon Igesund is thrilled that the installation of floodlights at Woodburn Stadium should allow more fans to attend the Team of Choice's matches....

Kick Off for Maritzburg United’s match against Orlando Pirates next Wednesday has been switched from 15H00 to 19H30.

This is to allow those fans that may have been forced to miss the match through work commitments to attend what is often one of the highlights on United’s fixture list.

Coach Gordon Igesund has consistently praised the Team of Choice’s fans for their loyal and passionate support through a season which has more than its share of ups and downs.

He is now extremely happy at the club’s commitment to change the kick off time for the match against Pirates, which came as the result of a lot of hard work.

”It has taken a lot effort and a big expense for the club to get the lights fitted at the Woodburn Stadium, but we are thrilled that it has been done so that we can provide more of our fans the chance to watch this game, which is always one of the big matches of the season for us.

”I urge fans to buy their tickets early as Pirates also have a large support base and the Woodburn Stadium’s capacity is only in the region of 6000 – we would like to see Maritzburg’s fans far outweighing the Pirates support and helping to spur us to victory.

The Team of Choice are now in the hunt for a top eight finish, according to Igesund, who goes on to pay tribute to the impact the club’s fans have had on the team throughout the current campaign.

”Maritzburg’s fans have been absolutely outstanding throughout the season – they have been behind the team throughout the campaign. Even when the results were not coming, the fans were behind us, and now recently they have been an integral part of our five match winning streak.

”The fans understood that this is a new team, that it would take a while for things to gel on the field and for my football philosophy to be understood. During our last game against Wits our supporters played a big part in us getting a late win.

”I would again like to thank them for their wonderful support and its great to now be able to do something for them,” said Igesund.
