Larsen a big boost for technical team
Newly-appointed assistant coach Clinton Larsen is all set to form a formidable partnership with head coach Gordon Igesund.
To say the pair are well acquainted would be an understatement – as a player Larsen more than half his time as a professional player under the guidance of four-time PSL title winning coach Igesund.
During that period the two of them won the championship at both Manning Rangers and Orlando Pirates.
Having gained experience as a coach working at Rangers, Durban Stars and Nathi Lions, Larsen is thrilled to now have the opportunity to ply his trade in the top flight.
And he believes that Igesund could be the perfect mentor for him.
“Of my 13 years as a professional player I served with Gordon for seven – six at Rangers and one at Pirates. We had a very good working relationship.
“As a coach I have modeled myself on what I learned from him. I’m really looking forward to this opportunity of working with Gordon,” Larsen told Kick Off.
“I’ve finally got a break into the elite league. There are a lot of coaches my age breaking into the PSL right now and I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor than Gordon. It’s like serving an apprenticeship with ‘the company’,” he added.
To illustrate just how well he knows Igesund, Larsen makes the following point:
“At training there are times when Gordon’s about to say something and I’ll tell a player next to me that I know exactly what he’s going to say. I knew exactly what he wanted from me as a player, and that’s what I am trying to instill in the players now.”
With Larsen and Igesund at the helm, the foundation of a successful team is already in place – it’s all systems go now as The Team of Choice look to make a positive impact on their return to the Premier Soccer League.
