YOUTH DEVELOPMENT UPDATE:

U15’S AND U17’S DO THE DOUBLE

Maritzburg United’s U15 and U17 teams did the United family proud when they annexed both the Maritzburg and District’s Football Associations League and Cup titles in their respective divisions on Sunday the 21 September 2008. Both the Finals were played at the Frank Ryan Grounds. The Chairman, Mr. Farook Kadodia was on hand to convey his congratulations to Coaches Themba Dlamini and Dumisani Hlope and their players for bringing silverware and honou r to the Club.

The U15 clash against Superior F.C. went to the wire and was decided on a penalty shoot out with United winning 6-5. Coach Hlope admitted that it could have gone either way. It was a nail biting with Superior being very organized, but it was the character of my players and the game plan we employed that eventually saw us through, said a visibly excited Hlope. Credit to my players for also lifting the League title, which they won undefeated. This was an important milestone for the squad and a just reward for the effort they put in for the season.

U17’s CRUISE PAST DALES PARK F.C.

Coach Themba Dlamini’s United U17 outfit thrashed Dales Park United F.C. 7-0 in a one sided KO Cup Final. United led half time 3-0 and were in total control from the first whistle. According to Coach Themba it “was a walk in the park” for his side and Dales Park were not able to match United in all aspects of the game.

He also congratulated saluted his team for the way they went about achieving the League Title and a good victory against Dales Park in the Cup game. They worked very hard through out the year but the competition was not up to standard, added Themba. He is seriously considering playing in the Msunduzi Metropolitan League, subject to affiliation. This league will offer more of a challenge for my team.
