Team of Choice crash to Stars

Maritzburg United are out of the Telkom Cup, following a 2-0 defeat to Free State Stars at the Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday.

Diyo Sibisi was the man to seal United’s fate – he netted a brace for the hosts with goals in the third and 83 rd minutes.

Sibisi’s first goal came when he profited from a mistake in United’s defence and slotted the ball past Hunter Gilstrap.

Fadlu Davids had the chance to level matters in the 10 th minute when he ran onto a flick, but having rounded keeper Kennedy Mweene, he was unable to beat the covering Stars defence.

Maritzbutg stamped their authority in the centre of the park, and also attacked well down the wings, but struggled to fashion many clear-cut chances.

Elias Ngwepe, Tony Tsabedze and John Arwuah in the 37th minute did however enjoy goal scoring opportunities, but all three shot narrowly wide.

At the other end of the park, Gilstrap did brilliantly to save Sthembiso Ngcobo’s header.

The second half saw United continuing to attack, but it was again Ngcobo who nearly scored when he hit both the crossbar and the upright in short succession.

Sibisi ensured Stars’ victory when he slotted home after some brilliant work from Jimmy Kauleza.
