United punished by Clever Boys
It all went wrong for Maritzburg United in their match against Bidvest Wits as they suffered a 4-1 defeat to the new log leaders on Wednesday night in Joburg.
United were on the backfoot from the start as they conceded two goals in the first six minutes.
Ashraf Hendricks headed home a Richard Rantjie free after four minutes when he was given too much space in the box.
Two minutes after that Dale Studzinski teed up Sifiso Myeni, who crashed the ball home.
But to their credit United fought back and pulled a goal back after 14 minutes when Siipho Mngomezulu (pictured) struck with a brilliant free kick against his old club.
Substitute Collen Zimba nearly got an equaliser for the Team of Choice, but was denied by the Wits keeper Energy Murambadoro.
Shortly afterwards Zimba had another chance, but wasted the opportunity when a pass to a team-mate could have been the better option.
Maritzburg pressed hard to try and get back in the game, but they were always going to be vulnerable on the counter attack.
They were punished in the 70th minute when Studzinski netted and then Rantjie rubbed salt in their wounds with an 84th minute header.
