IGESUND EYES UNITED'S YOUTH

It was huge and pleasant surprise for the Players from the United Academy when Head Coach, Gordon Igesund announced the names of five players who will commence training with the first team immediately.

The announcement was a huge boost for Uniteds Development Programme.

The Academy Team has made steady progress in the competitive arena winning the Metropolitan League back to back and winning the play-offs to earn a place in the SAB League.

Head of Development, Katz Naidoo was chuffed for the lads and was pleased that the Head Coach has stood by his desire to blood in some of the Youth players into his squad.

The players who will start training with the first team have the potential to play at the top and with Gordon’s guidance the belief is strong.

"I stated to the media when I joined United that we cannot continuously buy players and for me it is vital to give our academy players the opportunity to break into the first team squad, commented a positive Igesund.

" My technical staff made of my assistant coach, Clinton Larsen and Team Manager Quintin Jettoo kept a close watch on thedevelopment team’s performances and were regular visitors to their training sessions. I must acknowledge the excellent work done by their Coach, Katz Naidoo, who also happens to be the Club’s Head of Development.

"I am hoping these players that I have earmarked for a future will be patient and work hard and adapt to my training regime, said Igesund. They are Sifiso Mthethwa a left back, Fabian Le Bon who players as a central defender, striker Sabelo Phakathi and wider midfielders, Ronald Rambo and Jabulani Ncubeni. They are all U20 and Jabulani is a current Amajimbo regular."

Coach Katz stated that he was pleased that the vision of the Directors is ganing momentum. The osmosis of the 5 development players into the first team squad will serve as a incentive and confidence booster, for the development players and create a functional bridge between the development and first team squads. Katz also stated that he has the utmost respect for Gordon Igesund and building this close working relationship will be mutually beneficial.
