United squad stretched for SuperSport game

Maritzburg United will be missing a handful of players for their match against SuperSport United this afternoon.

Striker Fadlu Davids, as well as midfielder Fanyana Dhladhla, are all suspended.

Tony Tsabedze (left wing) and Sam Ndlovu (central midfield) will also miss the game as they are both on loan from SuperSport United.

Coach Gordon Igesund acknowledged ahead of the game that there is no room for complacency in his side, despite his side’s great win over Ajax Cape Town.

"We played well against both Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates away from home last week and lost both matches by the odd goal. We could have beaten Ajax by more goals, but I know one win does not mean we are out of the woods yet.

"What has boosted morale was the fact we beat a side that are top of the league and on a roll. We showed we do not need to fear any side. But it is tight and competitive league. Two or three wins and instead of fighting to survive, we could be in with another fight and that is for a place in the top eight," he told Sapa.

SuperSport may have been thrashed 4-1 by Free State Stars, but Igesund remains wary of the Pretoria side.

"SuperSport are not the champions for nothing. FS Stars are a tough nut to crack at Goble Park. Our spirits have been lifted and SuperSport are going to have to respect us when they play us at home on Wednesday."

“Gavin (Hunt) is a first class coach. We take a psychological boost of having Ajax's scalp under our belts into this game and aim to climb further away from the danger zone."
