Igesund: we must pick up points at home

Maritzburg United coach Gordon Igesund is looking to pick up points on a regular basis as his side enters the home straight.

In United's advantage is the fact that the eight of their final 10 games are in the KZN area, with the only exceptions being away trips to Platinum Stars, Bay United and Orlando Pirates.

Of those seven games, five are to be played at the Woodburn Stadium, with the other three against AmaZulu, Golden Arrows and Thanda Royal Zulu.

Igesund is hopeful that the nature of the upcoming fixture list will enable his side to pull clear of the relegation zone.

“For the past 21 days we’ve had to play top teams like Pirates, Ajax, Swallows, Chiefs and Sundowns and it was always going to be difficult. But I am happy that we have past that phase now as we have to do battle against bottom half teams," he told Kick Off website.

“Out of 10 remaining games, seven of them will be at 'home' and we have to pick up points.”

Maritzburg's immediate focus turns to the Chatsworth Stadium, where they meet AmaZulu on Sunday afternoon.
