Do-or-Die for United

Maritzburg must earn at least a point from Saturday’s clash against Thanda Royal Zulu at the Mpumalanga Stadium to avoid the relegation battle.

A loss to their KZN rivals would leave United hoping that Celtic are unable to beat Free State Stars. (A draw in the Free State derby would enable Maritzburg to finish above Celtic regardless of their result against Thanda).

But coach Gordon Igesund and his men will not be banking on other results – their recent form, especially the 3-1 win over Moroka Swallows, points to a side in good form who are high in confidence.

If United are to keep Thanda from scoring, they will need to pay special attention to Clifford Mulenga – the Zambian winger is a player capable of punishing any defence, as he showed when scoring Thanda’s midweek winner over Platinum Stars.

United’s hopes will be pinned on Fadlu Davids, whose form was crucial in last season’s promotion chase, and who has again showed his big match temperament with vitl goals in recent weeks.

The match kicks off at 15H00.
