TINKLER DELIGHTED WITH RESUMPTION OF FOOTBALL

5 August 2020

Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler is relishing the return to play in South African football over the next few days.

The Team of Choice were enjoying an impressive season prior to the suspension of the Absa Premiership due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The KwaZulu-Natal Midlands outfit are in fifth position, having claimed 10 victories along the way and coach Eric and his players are raring to continue their rich vein of form in the Premier Soccer League.

“I think the players are the ones who have obviously missed football the most," he said. "It's their profession, something they enjoy. Being away from the game for as long as they have been, nearly three months, it is a long time, so everyone is happy to be back and ready to go.”

The remaining six games in the PSL season for United will be played out in the space of three weeks, but coach Eric is confident that his squad can deal with the busy schedule with the added bonus of having everyone fit and available for selection.

He continued: “I think the squad so far is all good, we do not have any injuries. Everyone is fit and available so that is a positive leading up to the final six games,. We have six games in three weeks but fortunately for us they are not really that congested.

"We only have one real back-to-back games that is a bit of a concern which is when we play Sundowns and then Wits two days later but that’s a problem for all the teams, they all have to face something similar.”

Tinkler has urged the Blue Army to stay safe and support the team from home.

“Obviously, these games will be played behind closed doors so we hope the Maritzburg United fans will support us from home and stay safe," he added. "Five of our last six games are televised so they will get an opportunity to see us on TV and obviously we will feel that support in the stadium.”

All six of our final PSL games will have live commentary on our social media platforms.
