MARITZBURG UNITED WELL PREPPED FOR SWALLOWS SHOWDOWN
13 December 2020
With more than a full week of training since their last match, Maritzburg United are well prepared and ready to give their all to secure a positive result against Swallows FC.
The Team of Choice take on Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium in a DStv fixture scheduled for a 7.30pm kick off on Tuesday evening.
The newly-promoted Swallows have made a bright start to the season and have won three and drawn three of their six matches, occupying second spot on the league table, and have conceded only two goals.
They will be a tough nut to crack, but Maritzburg are up for the challenge and go into the match with their morale lifted by a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in their previous game.
"We want to take this point against Sundowns and run with it," said Team of Choice midfielder Daylon Claasen.
"The players are taking well to coach [Ernst] Middendorp, you can see the mood in the camp - everyone is smiling. Obviously with a new coach it's an adjustment, but everyone is adjusting and taking it in well."
The 30-year-old midfield playmaker also appealed to the Blue Army to keep getting behind the team.
"Keep having faith in us and supporting us. As you know we didn't start off on a good note. But I truly believe things will change, just have faith and please keep supporting," he said.
Meanwhile, assistant coach Delron Buckley has provided some insight as to how training has been going, and also believes that the camp has been boosted by the Sundowns draw.
"It's given the players self confidence mentally, for the next game we have against Swallows," Buckley said.
"In the training sessions which coach Ernst has been implementing, its very intensive - getting the players to get stuck into tackles, making them work hard, making them vigilant and quick, to make decisions when they receive the ball which is working out very well."
The former Bafana Bafana winger revealed there is a healthy competition for places in the match-day XI: "You come to training, you have got to put in 100 percent, show that you're active, show your ability and that you have the quality to get in the starting XI," he said.
Midfielder Keagan Buchanan will miss the Swallows game due to suspension after accumulating four yellow cards this season.
