KUTU’S STUNNING STRIKE VS SUNDOWNS WINS GOAL OF THE MONTH
17 September 2020
Maritzburg United forward Thabiso Kutumela has been handed the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month accolade for August/ September 2020 by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
This follows on from last month when head coach Eric Tinkler and midfielder Daylon Claasen were named as coach and player of the month respectively for February/March 20 (the award was delayed until August due to the four month break to action due to the Covid-19 pandemic).
Kutumela's beautiful strike was against Mamelodi Sundowns and was the final goal in a 2-2 draw against the league champions on August 21. (http://maritzburgunited.co.za/200821_report_Sundowns.htm)
After a jinking run down the left flank by Tebogo Tlolane, the ball is given to Kutumela about 25-yards out from goal.
The stocky striker then neatly side-steps a defender before unleashing a venomous but controlled shot into the bottom corner of the net, the ball whistling past a hapless Denis Onyango.
Kutumela will now be in contention to win the Absa-lutely Awesome Goal of the Season award at the PSL Awards.
He will be up against:
* August: Hlompo Kekana (Mamelodi Sundowns)
* September/October: Thabo Nodada (Cape Town City)
* November: Dumisani Zuma (Kaizer Chiefs)
* December: Samir Nurkovic (Kaizer Chiefs)
* January: Gabadinho Mhango (Orlando Pirates)
* February: Lebogang Manyama (Kaizer Chiefs)
* August/September: Thabiso Kutumela (Maritzburg United)
Kutumela was the Team of Choice's top goal scorer last season with 10 goals in league and cup. To read more on last season's stats, please click here.
