United look to keep superb home record intact
3 November 2014
With 10 points from 12 at home this season, Maritzburg United will be determined for another positive result when they host Bloemfontein Celtic at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday.
The venue will provide a familiar backdrop for Phunya Sele Sele manager Ernst Middendorp, who spent several seasons in charge of the PMB club.
Middendorp brings his Celtic side into this game currently in ninth position, although the Free Staters have won their last two matches.
Maritzburg are in third position on the Absa Premiership standings, and have also won their last two league games, scoring seven goals in the process.
The two clubs have met 16 times in the league since 2005/ 2006. Eight matches have been drawn, including both of last season’s games (a 0-0 draw in Bloemfontein and a 1-1 draw in Pietermaritzburg). Each club have won four times, with United securing victory on home turf on three occasions.
Maritzburg’s line-up from their 4-1 win over SuperSport: Vries, Mngonyama, Banda, Pantsil, Awal, Vilakazi (De Jongh 65'), Hartog, Mabaso, Cele, Mandaza (Anas 70'), Sekotlong (Lentjies 63')
