RAE JOINS THE TEAM OF CHOICE

22 February 2021

Maritzburg United are pleased to announce the signing of Ryan Rae on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old joins as a free agent, having last played for Chippa United. Before that, he spent six seasons with Highlands Park.

Rae has been operating as a holding midfielder in recent times but also played at right-back and centre-back in his career.

A hard-working and very competitive player, Rae is well known for his powerful long throw-ins into the opposition box.

"A warm welcome to Ryan Rae at Maritzburg United and we wish that his stay in Pietermaritzburg will be a positive one," said Team of Choice Chairman Farook Kadodia.

"Together with our other new signings made over the past month, we are optimistic that Ryan's arrival will coincide with an upturn in our results.

"As management we believe that his considerable experience in the PSL, together with his competitive nature, will have a galvanizing affect on the squad. Ryan's versatility will also be of benefit to the team.”

United's other mid-season arrivals are goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt, attacking midfielder Keletso Sifama, and Dusan Stevic, a defender.

The club have also promoted three players from the Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) squad set-up; Asanda Buthelezi, Muzomuhle Ngwane and Phiwayinkosi Zuma. Ngwane is a central defender while Buthelezi and Zuma play in midfield.
