COACH TINKLER, DAYLON CLAASEN HONOURED WITH ABSA PREM AWARDS

10 August 2020

Maritzburg United are proud to announce that our head coach Eric Tinkler has won back-to-back coach of the month awards, with midfielder Daylon Claasen also earning accolades for his outstanding performances.

The news was made public by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Monday morning, prior to the commencement of the league this week.

Coach Eric and Daylon were joined by Kaizer Chiefs forward Lebogang Manyama, who won goal of the month for his winning goal in the Soweto derby.

It seems like a long time ago now, because of the delay in play due to the coronavirus, but the Team of Choice were in scintillating form before the league was suspended.

"For Eric Tinkler, Daylon Claasen and Lebogang Manyama, the restart of league action will coincide with all three receiving their monthly accolades, as recipients of the Absa Premiership Coach, Player and Goal of the month for February/ March 2020, respectively," read a PSL statement.

"Prior to the coronavirus-enforced hiatus, Tinkler guided Maritzburg United to four successive wins, beating title contenders Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits away from home as well as Stellenbosch FC and Polokwane City, impressive results that moved the Team of Choice to 5th place on the log standings.

"Claasen, also from the Maritzburg-based club, played an integral role in United’s good form back in February. The stylish playmaker was the key man for his side, scoring four goals and providing a couple of assists in that period."

Maritzburg United are very proud of coach Eric and Daylon's achievements and hope it will inspire the team as we head back into action, starting with Sunday afternoon's Absa Premiership match with Black Leopards at the FNB Stadium (3.30pm).
