MARITZBURG CLAIM A POINT IN THE CAPE
19 May 2021
Maritzburg United's trip to the Mother City yielded a point following a 0-0 draw with Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership encounter on Wednesday evening.
It took some resolute defending from the Team of Choice to secure the result, especially after Fares Hachi was sent off after picking up a second yellow card in the 67th minute.
Overall it was a tight game in which chances were at a premium, with both keepers kept fairly busy, but not over-worked with shots.
Hachi was to have the first chance of the game, in the eighth minute, but he lost his footing as shooting and went marginally wide of the target.
At the other end, in the 14th minute, Aubrey Ngoma pulled a 20-yard shot inches wide for the hosts.
Those were the only clear-cut chances of the opening stanza and it didn't get much better after the break for either team in terms of openings on goal.
After Hachi's dismissal it became more a case of defending the point for Maritzburg, and this was achieved by an outstanding collective defensive effort.
Coach Ernst Middendorp and his men now have a two week gap until the next match - against SuperSport United in Pretoria on June 2.
