MARITZBURG SET FOR TOUGH ENCOUNTER AGAINST FEISTY HIGHLANDS PARK
24 August 2020

M
aritzburg United are looking to put some distance between themselves and the chasing top eight pack when they take on Highlands Park at the Dobsonville Stadium.

Its an early kick off - 1.30pm.

This will be the Team of Choice's fourth Absa Premiership match in the bio-bubble, following a five-month break to the 2019/ 20 campaign due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Their first game ended in a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Black Leopards, but since then United have earned two credible draws against two of the league's strongest teams - Mamelodi Sundowns (2-2) and Bidvest Wits (0-0).

The clean sheet against the Clever Boys is another positive Maritzburg can take into the game against Owen da Gama's Lions of the North on Saturday.

Highlands though are a very competitive, hard-running side, with several potential match-winners in their ranks up front. They are ninth on the Absa Premiership table with 34 points - three positions and seven points behind Maritzburg.

Team of Choice head coach Eric Tinkler knows well that his men will need to be fired up and ready to give their best.

"Highlands is going to be a tough match," he said. "They are a team trying to get into the top eight. No game is easy at this stage - all games are extremely important for every single team and obviously we want to cement our place in the top eight.

“So to get a positive result against Highlands is extremely important for us," the coach continued.

"Fortunately everybody is available expect Nazeer Allie who is suspended....Everybody is ready and hopefully we can go and collect three points."

The last two matches between the two sides ended in 1-1 draws (including the most recent game, a 1-1 draw in the Telkom Knockout which United went on to win on penalties).

In the overall head-to-head record there's been nothing to separate the clubs: 7 games played, 3 draws and 2 wins each.
