MARITZBURG WELCOME MEZA TO THE CITY OF CHOICE
13 October 2020
Maritzburg United have boosted their forward line significantly with the signing of Jose Ali Meza from Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The stocky and powerfully-built Meza has penned a two-year deal with an option to renew. He will offer Maritzburg head coach Eric Tinkler and his technical team several different options up front and will bring something a little different to the team’s current forward options, which potentially could result in some exciting new combinations in attack.
Born in Venezuela, Meza enjoyed a stellar career in South America – in his home country as well as in Bolivia. He also had a brief spell in Portugal. So far the versatile front man has three league titles and a couple of cup competition winners medals in his trophy cabinet.
A crafty player, Meza has shown himself to have a knack of making something out of nothing with his game intelligence. Difficult for defenders to dispossess, he’ll certainly bring experience, guile and presence to the Team of Choice front line.
“Jose Meza is a player who Maritzburg United have been monitoring for some time and we are very pleased to have been able to secure his services,” said Team of Choice chairman Farook Kadodia.
“With so much competition at Sundowns for places, he perhaps didn’t quite get the chance to showcase his full ability in the PSL. We are optimistic that he will be keen to show what he can do and that he will grab this chance with both hands and flourish at Maritzburg United.
“He’s competitive and hard working and we believe has the ability to be a match-winner. He will complement well our current forwards, and if we can integrate Jose successfully into our existing squad, then we are confident his time in Pietermaritzburg will be fruitful.”
