TEAM OF CHOICE WELL REPRESENTED IN PSL AWARD NOMINEES
15 October 2020
Underlining a successful 2019/ 20 season for Maritzburg United are the nominations of Rushine De Reuck, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Judas Moseamedi and head coach Eric Tinkler for the Premier Soccer League’s end-of-season awards.
The Team of Choice narrowly lost out to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout final and also earned a respectable seventh-place finish in the league.
Taking into consideration the brush with relegation the season before, it was a remarkable turnaround and credit must go to the all the players as well as the technical team led by head coach Eric Tinkler.
Coach Eric’s leadership qualities and tactical nous have deservingly seen him nominated as the #AbsaPrem Coach of the Season, alongside Kaizer Chiefs’ former coach Ernst Middendorp and former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane.
There were star performers across the United squad last season, including the defensive unit which enjoyed one of the best records in the top flight.
And it was central defender Rushine De Reuck who has caught the judges' eyes as he was nominated in the #AbsaPrem Defender of the Season category.
Cool and composed, the 24-year-old from Cape Town has developed superbly in the KwaZulu-Natal capital and he’ll be up against Daniel Cardoso (Kaizer Chiefs) and Sundowns’ Motjeka Madisha.
Also showing rapid progress last season was burly striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who is in line for the #AbsaPrem Young player of the Season award. The local lad will battle for honours against Goodman Mosele (Baroka FC) and AmaZulu’s Sphesihle Maduna.
Moseamedi meanwhile has notched some crucial goals for the Team of Choice over the last couple of seasons. Included in those was a superb double strike in a 2-1 Telkom Knockout semi-final win over Soweto giants Kazier Chiefs. The big man faces competition from Sundowns duo Hlompho Kekana and Gaston Sirino for the prize.
