TEAM OF CHOICE BID A FOND FAREWELL TO RICHARD OFORI
20 October 2020
Maritzburg United would like to wish goalkeeper Richard Ofori all the best at his new club Orlando Pirates.
The 26-year-old provided the Team of Choice with some stellar service for the last three seasons and barely missed a game in that period.
Also a regular in goal for the star-studded Ghana national team, ‘Big Rich’ has been a positive influence and popular member of the Maritzburg squad and became a firm fans’ favourite in Pietermaritzburg.
His shot-stopping skills and ability to command his box aerially were crucial to United’s defensive efforts and surely few could argue that he has been among the best keepers in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) over the past three years.
This of course has had the effect of attracting suitors, and Ofori subsequently reached the point where he decided to begin a new chapter in his career in Johannesburg with Pirates.
On behalf of Maritzburg United Football Club, Chairman Farook Kadodia wishes the big man all the very best.
“We would like to say a big thank you to Richard for the outstanding service he has given our club over the past three seasons and wish him well as he embarks on the next stage of his career,” the Chairman stated.
“Inevitably, when a player consistently produces top performances on the pitch, he will catch the eye of other clubs. It’s not easy to part ways with such a quality player, but we need to do what was in the best interest for everyone.
“Richard is a model professional and played a crucial role in assisting the club achieve two top eight finishes during his time here, as well as helping us avoid relegation two seasons back. We’re grateful for his time in Pietermaritzburg and hope that he continues to go from strength to strength in the years ahead.”
