TEAM OF CHOICE DEFEATED IN DOBSONVILLE
15 December 2020

Maritzburg United were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline in a DStv Premiership encounter against Swallows FC at the Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday night.
Goals either side of the half time beak from Ruzaigh Gamildien proved the visiting side’s undoing.
Maritzburg had made a bright start to the game and had a good chance in the fifth minute when Kwanda Mngonyama crossed for Judas Moseamedi, who did well to bring down the ball and get a shot in, but his effort was blocked.
Three minutes later there was another opportunity when Bandile Shandu picked up a loose ball and played in Daylon Claasen who in turn set up Sibusiso Hlubi, but his shot was kept out by Birds keeper Virgil Vries.

The Team of Choice remained on the front foot and were unlucky not to go in front in the 21st minute when following a Dan Morgan corner kick, Rushine De Reuck's header struck the woodwork.
Hlubi also came close for Maritzburg on the half hour mark as his free kick was deflected wide for a corner.
Unable to take the openings which came their way, United suffered a setback in the 36th minute when Swallows scored from the penalty spot through Gamildien.
Looking to change things up, Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Tyrone Sandows came on at half time.
Hlongwane was amongst the action 10 minutes later but wasn't able to keep a header on target from a Claasen cross.
Instead, Maritzburg's hopes of a comeback were hit with another blow as Gamildien completed his brace on 64 minutes.
With Morgan prominent in attack, the KwaZulu-Natal side rallied for a way back into the game, but it just wouldn't fall for them, as was demonstrated by Hlongwane narrowly arriving too late to convert an inviting cross from the New Zealand-born defender.
Two nil was how it remained in Dobsonville at the final whistle and the Team of Choice will now shift their focus towards Friday night's clash against Stellenbosch FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
