DANIELS' EXPERIENCE SET TO BRING ADDED STABILITY TO MARITZBURG
5 January 2021
Premier Soccer League (PSL) players don't come much more experienced than our newly-signed central defender, Clayton Daniels.
The Cape Town-born defender made his debut for Ajax Cape Town back in the 2006/ 07 season and has subsequently played 350 top-flight matches for the Urban Warriors, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bloemfontein Celtic and SuperSport United.
In that time the 36-year-old has picked up two Nedbank Cup winners' medals, a Telkom Knockout winners' medal, and has also won the MTN8 competition twice.
On Saturday evening Clayton made his debut for Maritzburg, and playing alongside former Ajax team-mate Nazeer Allie, put in a solid shift in the heart of defence to help United to a 2-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic.
The Bafana Bafana-capped centre-back is keen to make the most of his time in Pietermaritzburg and explained why he chose the Team of Choice:
"I'm very happy to be here and to be given the opportunity to play football again. I always said I want to be in a good environment when I play football," Daniels said.
"And I think there is a very good environment at Maritzburg and a lot of players I have played with before. I know the coach [Ernst Middendorp, who previously worked with Daniels at Celtic) and the technical team that I worked with before, so I'm very happy to be here."
Next up for Daniels and his team-mates is Saturday evening's DStv Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.
