WE HAVE TO RECTIFY OUR MISTAKES, SAYS CAPTAIN NAZEER
4 November 2020

Maritzburg United are determined to regroup and use the two-week international break to maximum effect as they bid to regroup following a tough start to the season.

The Team of Choice's most recent outing, away at Chippa United on Tuesday night, ended disappointingly in a 3-1 defeat.

Their next game is a DStv Premiership match against Black Leopards in Thohoyandou on Saturday November 21.

Skipper and central defender Nazeer Allie admits improvements are needed and is determined that he and his team-mates will put things right on the training ground over the next few weeks.

"We have to rectify our mistakes - that's cost us in a couple of matches, prior to this game," Allie said.

"Now we have two weeks to rectify our mistakes and work towards the next game. Maybe the two weeks came at the right time for us to have a break [from official fixtures] and work on our mistakes and improve ourselves in training."

For head coach Eric Tinkler it was also a bitter pill to swallow against the Chilli Boys, especially considering that United had been right in the game at half time, with the scores locked at 1-1.

Indeed, based on the overall first half display, Maritzburg could even have been ahead had they not given away a penalty.

"Obviously disappointed, the two penalties [the second one came after the restart], and the red card made life very difficult," coach Eric said.

"I feel for the boys - first half we performed very well, had chances to really control the match in my opinion. I don't think that they [Chippa] were really a threat in the first half. I think they got into our box two or three times and we coped with it, barring the penalty.

"We spoke about rectifying certain areas of our game in the second half, in terms of the movement going forward. On the ball we needed to be better. Then you concede another penalty, 2-1 down now you're chasing and then the red card doesn't help."
