MARITZBURG HOPING TO MAKE IT A PROFITABLE WEEK
4 March 2021
While remaining grounded and respectful of Bloemfontein Celtic, Maritzburg United are determined to build on Tuesday evening's DStv Premiership win over Black Leopards.
The Team of Choice recorded a 1-0 victory over Lidoda Duvha at the Harry Gwala Stadium and now have the opportunity to make it six points for the week when they take on Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium, 5pm kick off on Saturday.
"It (the Leopards victory) was a massive three points for the team," commented Maritzburg midfielder Daylon Claasen.
"The guys are happy, but we know its not the end of the fight. We still have a long way to go. We are taking it game by game. The guys seem to
be confident and every match for us is like a cup final," Claasen added.
Phunya Sele Sele come into Saturday's match on the back of a 1-0 midweek defeat to Orlando Pirates.
However, the Free State side played for 45 minutes with only 10 men in Soweto after Ndumiso Mabena's sending off, yet still put up a very credible showing and made Bucs work hard for their points.
Celtic will also be looking to bounce back and United know that nothing can be taken for granted.
"Bloem Celtic is a very good team, a very tactical team, they play really well on the ball," Claasen pointed out.
"You don't know what you are going to get from them on any given day. But we don't focus on them, we will go there and play our strategy and
implement our style of play.
"We are still at the bottom, but we still have hope and hope is important. Every game for us is important, regardless of which team we
are playing against."
The two clubs have played each other 31 times, with Maritzburg recording 14 wins, 11 draws and 6 defeats.
