TEAM OF CHOICE TAKE A POINT FROM BLOEM TRIP
6 March 2021

Maritzburg United scored first but had to settle for a share of the spoils as Bloemfontein Celtic came from behind to claim a 1-1 DStv Premiership draw at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Team of Choice had been hoping to make it two wins for the week but it wasn’t to be as Thabiso Kutumela's goal late in the first half was cancelled out midway through the second stanza.

United started on the front foot and had the ball in the net after just five minutes, only for Daylon Claasen's effort to be ruled offsides.

Maritzburg front-man Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who enjoyed a lively first stanza, created a chance for himself on 17 minutes as he cut inside and fired a shot narrowly over goal.

Five minutes later Hlongwane got in a header at goal following a Kutumela cross, but failed to keep it on target and soon after the young striker dragged another effort wide of the mark

Having netted the winner from the spot against Black Leopards earlier this week, Kutumela made it two goals from two matches when he curled a sublime free kick into goal moments before the half time whistle in Bloem.

Hlongwane had another chance for the Team of Choice, eight minutes after the break, but after latching onto Fares Hachi's ball, his shot was blocked.

The home side then got themselves back on level terms through Menzi Ndwandwe's 72nd minute goal.

Maritzburg had a shot from Kutumela blocked as well as an effort from Sibusiso Hlubi which was saved by Celtic keeper Jackson Mabokgwane, but other than that, didn't really look like finding a winner.

The match ended on a sour note for the KwaZulu-Natal side when defender Clayton Daniels was sent off in added time after collecting a second yellow card.
