TLOLANE: WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WORK OUR SOCKS OFF

7 January 2021

Maritzburg United take on Kaizer Chiefs this weekend in a DStv Premiership encounter set for 5pm in Johannesburg on Saturday evening.

The Team of Choice head into the match against Amakhosi with some wind in their sails after their 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic last weekend.

But while morale has been boosted by that win, the United contingent also know that it will be a clean slate and a new game at the FNB Stadium, as winger Tebogo Tlolane explains.

"Obviously it was delightful to get the first win," he said. "But the coach has made it clear that we are not out of danger, so we quickly forgot about the victory.

"When it happened you could see the joy on everybody's faces. But immediately when we got back to training the coach made us aware that we should forget about the victory and look forward to the Kaizer Chiefs game," Tlolane elaborated.

"This first win gives us confidence. Now it all about taking that confidence and going game by game, step by step to get the necessary three points to get ourselves out of danger.”

This will be the second time Maritzburg clash with Chiefs this season, the first occasion resulted in a 2-1 win for Amakhosi in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

Since then Chiefs have not been in the best of form either but did manage this week to qualify for the group phase of the Champions League.

And as Tlolane points out, they should not be underestimated.

"We should never be mistaken - we know that they are not doing well in the league, as their position says. But they are still a big team, its still Kaizer Chiefs. On their day, they have very good players, so we shouldn't take it lightly. We are going to have to work our socks off to get a victory, especially playing away."

In 31 previous matches against the Glamour Boys, the Team of Choice have won six, drawn eight and lost 17. United won the corresponding away game in Soweto last season 2-1, with Daylon Claasen netting a brace.
