MARITZBURG BRACED FOR TOUGH TEST AGAINST DA GAMA'S GALAXY

19 January 2021

Maritzburg United are keen to consolidate their recent upturn in form by claiming victory over TS Galaxy in a DStv match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday evening, 5pm kick off.

The Team of Choice head into Wednesday's game in good form, following wins against Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs, and a draw against AmaZulu on Sunday.

United's chances were limited against Usuthu and they had to fight really hard to claim the point from a 0-0 draw.

It showed good character though, which Team of Choice defender Kwanda Mngonyama hopes will be taken into the game against the Rockets.

"It was a big battle but we managed to get a point on the road. So its really good for us as a team moving forward,” he said.

Asked whether the results of 2021 will provide a solid platform for moving forward, Mngonyama replied:

"Definitely, its not like we have been playing badly, just the results were not coming."

On preparations for the midweek encounter, coming just a couple of days after the KwaZulu-Natal derby, Mngonyama commented:

"It's a short turn-around, but we are here to work at the end of the day. I think everyone is ready and available for Wednesday.

"So we are looking forward to it. Whoever is on the field must be ready to work so we can keep on moving forward."

The match will be against a Galaxy side which has seen Owen Da Gama taking charge last week.

And having had some tough battles in recent seasons when Da Gama was at Highlands Park, United are expecting more of the same from the PSL rookies and 2019 Nedbank Cup winners.

"They've got a new coach now, we all know how coach Owen plays - its not going to be an easy game. Its important for us to be prepared and ready for the game," Kwanda remarked.
