MARITZBURG SHOW FANTASTIC FIGHT IN 4-GOAL THRILLER

Maritzburg United twice rallied from behind to force a 2-2 Absa Premiership draw away to SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.

The hosts struck first blood soon after kick off, before Judas Moseamedi equalised early in the second half.

SuperSport again took the lead with 15 minutes to play, but once more Maritzburg hit back as Thabiso Kutumela converted a pressure spot kick three minutes later to earn the KZN outfit a point.

It was a case of the worst possible start for Eric Tinkler's men when Kudakwashe Mahachi fired Matsatsantsa ahead with only a minute on the clock in Atteridgeville.

Maritzburg responded well and had a chance 10 minutes later when Micah Lea'alafa teed up Daylon Claasen, but his volley was blocked by Clayton Daniels.

There wasn't much in the way of clearcut opportunities after that for the Pietermaritzburg side as they went into the break 1-0 down.

That was however to changed 12 minutes after the interval when Moseamedi arrived in the box to slot home Mxolisi Kunene's delivery from close range.

It looked though as if the Team of Choice's efforts were to be undone when former Maritzburg striker Evans Rusike put SuperSport back in front in the 75th minute.

But Maritzburg's never-say-die spirit came to the fore again as Kutumela held his nerve to score from the penalty spot after Jeremy Brockie had been brought down in the box.

There could even have been a winner for the visitors, but it wasn't to be as Brockie failed to hit the target with an 85th minute shot.

Nevertheless the Team of Choice deservedly bagged a hard-earned point – away at one of the league front-runners - and will next be in action against Chippa United in East London on Saturday night.
